Brief Description
Dr. S Rajagopal is our Cardio Thoracic & Vascular Surgeon. He is a former Professor of Cardiovascular and Thoracic surgery at Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, Kochi and Amala Institute of Medical Sciences, Thrissur. He worked as Sr Consultant Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgeon, in Apollo Adlux Hospital, Karukutty, Kochi. He also worked as Senior Consultant and Chief Cardiothoracic and Vascular surgery in KIMS-Al Shifa Super Speciality Hospital, Perinthalmanna and Sun Medical Centre, Thrissur. He was instrumental in setting up state-of-the-art departments in Amala Institute of Medical Sciences, KIMS-Al Shifa Hospital, Sun Medical Centre, Thrissur and Apollo Adlux Hospital.
Dr S.Rajagopal specializes in all types of adult cardiac, thoracic, Aortic and Vascular surgeries. He is one of the sought after cardiac surgeon in the central Kerala. He is one of the leading and most experienced cardiac surgeon with expertise in coronary artery bypass graft surgeries, especially beating heart operations, valve replacement and repair surgeries, aortic aneurysm surgeries, Heart failure surgeries and minimally invasive cardiac surgeries. He has strived to bring advances in the cardiac surgery field to the common man.
He graduated for Government Medical College, Thiruvananthapuram, and then continued to train in MS-Gen Surgery and MCh- Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery from the same institute. His cardiac surgery career started in Manipal Heart Foundation, Bangalore under Dr Devi Shetty and later moved to Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, Kochi where he rose to Professor in Cardiothoracic and Vascular surgery. He moved to Amala Institute of Medical Sciences to set up the department, which is still one of the best in Kerala, Dr Rajagopal has been practicing cardio surgery for the last 21 years and has completed more than 6000 case with admirable results.
He is a life member of several medical societies. He is an active life member of IMA, Fellow of Society for Cardiovascular and Thoracic surgery and Indian Society of Critical Care Medicine. He is also the founder member and Joint secretary of Society for Heart failure and Transplantation, which is the most active heart failure in India.
Dr S Rajagopal is considered to be one of the safest heart surgeons in Kerala and known as the ‘Surgeon with the safest hands’.

- Participated in RSD-1235-01-04 trial, a phase III study of conversion efficacy and safety of repeated IV doses of RSD 1235 in subjects with Atrial Fibrillation and Atrial Flutter following valvular/or coronary bypass grafting. [Cardiome Pharmacorp, Vancouver, Canada], an international trial of new anti-arrhythmic drug.
